The Machine You Never Knew You Needed: How the LF1000 Lifter Helps You Work Smarter, Not Harder

Some tools solve a problem you already know you have.

Others make you realise there was a better way of doing things all along.

The LF1000 Lifter is one of those machines.

Designed and built in Britain, our LF1000 Lifter is a compact, tracked lifting machine designed to help contractors, landscapers, builders, groundworkers and property professionals move heavy materials more safely, efficiently and with less physical effort.

It is the type of machine that, once people see what it can do, they often wonder how they managed without it.

A solution to a common problem

A typical example is something many contractors and landscapers experience regularly.

A bulk bag of materials arrives at the front of a property. The work is happening at the back.

Traditionally, that means moving hundreds of kilos of material by hand, wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow.

It is time-consuming, physically demanding and often difficult when access is restricted.

The LF1000 was designed to make this type of job easier.

At just 840mm wide, the machine is narrow enough to access spaces where larger equipment simply cannot go. It is designed to fit through the same spaces as a standard bulk bag, meaning materials can be transported directly to where they are needed.

Instead of moving the materials to the machine, the machine brings the materials to the work.

Compact size, serious capability

Despite its compact footprint, the LF1000 Lifter can lift up to 1,000kg.

Weighing approximately 715kg, it is lightweight enough to transport easily between sites while still offering the lifting capacity needed for demanding jobs.

Its tracked design provides excellent all-terrain capability, helping it operate across gardens, construction sites, uneven ground and challenging access areas.

The result is a machine that combines the accessibility of smaller equipment with the lifting ability usually associated with much larger machinery.

More than just a bag lifter

The LF1000 Lifter was originally designed to solve the challenge of moving bulk bags, but its versatility goes much further.

The machine uses interchangeable attachments, allowing it to adapt to different tasks.

Available attachments include:

Bag lift cruciform - Perfect for moving bulk bags of:

  • aggregate,

  • soil,

  • gravel,

  • sand,

  • and other landscaping materials.

Pallet bars - Allow the Lifter to move palletised materials such as:

  • paving slabs,

  • stone products,

  • bricks,

  • and building materials.

Articulated log grab - Transforms the machine into a powerful tool for handling timber and forestry materials, making it ideal for:

  • moving large logs,

  • forestry work,

  • landscaping projects,

  • and site clearance.

Post hole borer - Adds another capability for:

  • fencing projects,

  • agricultural work,

  • landscaping,

  • and ground preparation.

Muck grab - Useful for handling loose materials and clearing waste from sites.

One compact machine can therefore take on multiple roles depending on the job.

Designed to reduce physical strain

Construction, landscaping and groundwork are physically demanding industries.

Moving heavy materials manually is not only time-consuming, but can also increase the risk of injury and fatigue.

The LF1000 Lifter helps businesses work smarter by reducing manual handling and allowing operators to move heavier loads with greater control.

It is not about replacing skilled workers. It is about giving them the right equipment to work more efficiently and safely.

Simple to operate, easy to use

The LF1000 Lifter has been designed around practical everyday use.

Features include:

  • simple controls,

  • compact tracked design,

  • electric-start Vanguard petrol engine,

  • excellent visibility from the operator position,

  • and easy attachment changes.

The operator can walk alongside the machine during normal operation, or use the raised rear platform when longer distances need to be covered.

The front stability foot also acts as a load stabiliser when tracking, helping maintain confidence when moving heavier loads.

The tool you did not know you needed

Many machines are purchased because a business has a specific job that requires them.

The LF1000 is different.

It is often the machine people discover after seeing it in action.

A contractor might initially buy it to move bulk bags, then find it becomes useful for moving slabs, lifting timber, handling materials, drilling post holes and solving access challenges across many different projects.

The best tools are not always the biggest or most powerful. Often, they are the machines that save time, reduce effort and make everyday jobs easier.

Work smarter, not harder

The LF1000 Lifter is a compact, versatile and practical solution for businesses that regularly move heavy materials in challenging locations.

With its narrow access, 1-tonne lifting capacity, interchangeable attachments and all-terrain capability, it is designed to do far more than one job.

Sometimes the most valuable machine is the one you never knew existed.

Can a Compact Crusher Pay for Itself? A Practical Guide for Hire Companies

For a hire company considering adding a new machine to its fleet, the biggest question is usually not "what does it cost?" but:

"Will it earn its place in my fleet?"

Every machine has to justify the space it takes in the yard, the capital invested, and the time spent maintaining it. A compact crusher is no different.

The good news is that crushers are becoming increasingly popular with both contractors and end users because they solve a genuine problem: turning waste concrete and rubble into a reusable material rather than paying to remove it and bring new aggregate back in.

But what does the investment look like from a hire company's perspective?

Understanding the opportunity

The Dragon Equipment CR450 Diesel Crusher sits in the middle of our range and has become one of the most popular models because it offers a balance between productivity, transportability and ease of use.

With the ability to crush up to 10 tonnes per hour, the CR450 Crusher can process a significant amount of material during a typical working day.

In many cases, customers do not need the machine for weeks at a time. A one- or two-day hire is often enough to complete a project, depending on the amount and type of material being crushed.

This short-duration hire pattern can work well for hire companies because the machine has the potential to serve multiple customers and projects throughout the year.

What do hire companies charge?

Hire rates vary depending on location, demand and the individual hire company.

Across the UK, compact crusher hire rates commonly range from approximately £150 to £350 per day, with around £200 per day being a realistic example figure for modelling purposes.

The actual return will depend on:

  • local market conditions,

  • competition in the area,

  • customer demand,

  • and how actively the machine is promoted.

A successful hire asset is not simply a machine that sits in the yard waiting for enquiries. The best-performing machines are actively marketed, included in customer conversations and offered as a solution to common site problems.

An example finance scenario

To understand the potential return, let's look at an example ownership model.

Assume:

  • Customer provides a 25% deposit

  • Remaining balance financed over 5 years

  • Indicative finance repayment: £125.39 per week*

Finance rates change regularly, so this should only be treated as an example based on current available finance illustrations.

This equates to approximately:

  • £543 per month

  • £6,520 per year

Alongside finance, a hire company should consider planned maintenance.

A manufacturer maintenance contract is available from £750 per year, covering scheduled servicing, including labour, travel and service parts.

This provides a predictable ownership cost:

Annual cost - Approximate amount

Finance payments £6,520

Maintenance contract £750

Total fixed annual ownership cost £7,270

How many hires does it need?

This is the question every hire company wants answered.

The honest answer is: it depends.

Demand varies by region, season and how effectively the machine is promoted. However, we can look at some examples.

Using an average hire rate of £200 per day:

Hire days per month - Monthly hire revenue

5 days £1,000

10 days £2,000

15 days £3,000

At around 5–6 hire days per month, the machine is already making a meaningful contribution towards its finance, maintenance and ownership costs.

At higher utilisation levels, the machine has the opportunity to become a strong revenue-generating asset.

The important point is that a compact crusher does not need to be hired every day to make commercial sense.

Why utilisation matters more than the purchase price

A hire company's return is determined by three things:

1. Demand

The machine needs customers.

Many hire companies find that once contractors understand what a crusher can do, repeat demand follows. Customers often return when they have another project involving concrete, rubble or excavation waste.

2. Availability

A machine sitting in the yard earns nothing.

That is why reliability and easy maintenance matter. Every day lost to unnecessary downtime is a missed hire opportunity.

3. Cost control

Predictable ownership costs make planning easier.

A maintenance contract helps remove uncertainty by ensuring scheduled servicing is completed by trained engineers using the correct parts.

Designed for hire environments

The CR450 Crusher has been designed with uptime and ease of ownership in mind.

Features such as anti-stall and no-stress technology help protect the machine when difficult materials enter the crusher box, reducing unnecessary strain and helping keep production moving.

Daily maintenance has also been simplified. Routine checks involve five grease points, all located together in an easily accessible area on the side of the machine.

The main wear component is the crushing jaw. Wear rates depend on several factors, including:

  • hours worked,

  • type of material being crushed,

  • and how the machine is operated.

The jaws are manufactured from Hardox steel for durability and are designed so that only one jaw needs replacing at a time.

More than just a machine purchase

For a hire company, buying a crusher is not simply about adding another item to the fleet. It is about adding a machine that helps customers save money, reduce waste and work more efficiently.

The strongest hire assets are those that solve a clear customer problem. Compact crushers do exactly that by allowing customers to recycle material on-site instead of paying for removal and importing new aggregate.

When could the machine pay for itself?

Every hire company will have different overheads and operating costs, but an indicative example shows the potential.

At an average hire rate of £200 per day and just 5 hire days per month, the CR450 could generate around £12,000 of annual hire revenue.

Allowing for finance payments and the annual maintenance contract, this level of utilisation demonstrates how the machine can work towards paying for itself within 3-4 years, while the finance agreement is still running.

The long-term view

A well-maintained machine will continue working long after the finance period has ended.

The most successful hire companies focus not just on the first year of ownership, but on building a long-term income-producing asset.

For hire companies looking to add a practical, in-demand piece of equipment with predictable running costs and strong customer appeal, a compact crusher can be a valuable addition to the fleet.

Guest Blog: Working Alongside Trusted Manufacturers

By Matt Potter, Director at Arblease

Why Many Businesses Choose to Finance Machinery Rather Than Pay Cash

When people think about buying machinery, the natural assumption is often that paying cash is the best option. However, in many cases, businesses choose to finance machinery not because they have to, but because it can help preserve flexibility and protect working capital.

At Arblease, we regularly work with businesses across arboriculture, construction, recycling, forestry and groundcare who are looking for practical and commercially sensible ways to invest in equipment.

When arranging asset finance, there are typically several important factors considered as part of the overall assessment process. These do not simply relate to the customer itself, but can also include confidence in the supplying dealer or manufacturer, together with confidence in the machinery being funded.

From our perspective, successful long-term funding relationships are often built around three key areas:

  • The credibility of the customer

  • The credibility of the machinery

  • The credibility and support of the supplier or manufacturer

This is one of the reasons why we have continued to work alongside Dragon Equipment since the early stages of the business.

Over the years, we have assisted with funding a significant number of Dragon machines across a variety of industries and applications. Throughout that time, we have always found Dragon to be highly passionate about both its products and its customers.

Like any manufacturer operating in the real world, occasional operational or technical challenges can arise from time to time across the industry as a whole. However, our experience has been that Dragon has consistently demonstrated a proactive and supportive approach whenever assistance or aftersales support has been required.

That commitment to customer service and product support is an important factor when considering long-term machinery funding relationships.

We also strongly value the fact that Dragon equipment is British manufactured. Supporting British-built products and UK industry remains important to us as a business, particularly when the equipment is designed specifically for practical, real-world contracting environments.

For those reasons, Dragon continues to represent a manufacturer we are comfortable introducing to customers seeking structured machinery finance solutions.

A Real-World Example

Recently, we worked with a customer purchasing a compact crusher who had the available funds to buy the machine outright.

Initially, the customer assumed paying cash would be the most straightforward route. However, after discussions around cash flow, future business commitments and overall flexibility, the customer decided that financing the machine through hire purchase was the more suitable option for the business at that time.

The decision was not about affordability alone. It was about protecting liquidity within the business and maintaining flexibility for future opportunities and operational costs.

By spreading the cost through fixed monthly payments, the customer was able to retain available capital within the company for areas such as:

  • staffing and wages

  • repairs and maintenance

  • VAT commitments

  • fuel and transport costs

  • marketing and growth

  • additional machinery opportunities

  • general day-to-day trading flexibility

Flexible Deposits and Maintaining Equity

Another point discussed with the customer was the flexibility around the initial deposit.

With hire purchase agreements, businesses can often choose to contribute a larger deposit if they wish to reduce monthly repayments or structure the agreement more conservatively.

Some businesses prefer lower deposits to preserve cash reserves, whilst others may choose to place a larger deposit into the agreement in order to help maintain a stronger equity position against the estimated future value of the machinery.

This can provide additional reassurance for businesses wishing to maintain flexibility throughout the agreement.

Depending on market conditions and the finance settlement position at the time, there may be the potential ability to sell the machinery, settle the outstanding balance and retain any remaining equity.

Why Businesses Continue to Use Asset Finance

Asset finance is not always about whether a business can afford to buy machinery outright.

In many cases, businesses choose finance because it may help them:

  • spread the cost of ownership

  • manage cash flow more effectively

  • preserve working capital

  • protect existing banking facilities

  • and continue investing across multiple areas of the business simultaneously

For many contractors and growing businesses, maintaining liquidity and flexibility can often be just as important as owning the equipment itself.

Looking at the Bigger Picture

Every business is different, and there is no single funding solution that suits everybody.

However, for many companies, structured machinery finance can provide a sensible and commercially manageable way to invest in equipment whilst retaining flexibility elsewhere within the business.

Making Material Handling Easier with the Dragon Equipment LF1000 Lifter

When you're running a busy groundworks business, every minute spent manually moving materials is time that could be spent progressing the job.

That's why Aberdeenshire-based MRK Groundworks recently invested in their first Dragon Equipment LF1000 Lifter – a compact, powerful material handling machine designed to make transporting heavy loads around site quicker, safer and considerably less labour intensive.

Having recently taken delivery of the machine, it's already proving its worth across a variety of projects, helping the team move materials efficiently from delivery point to work area without the physical strain traditionally associated with manual handling.

Compact Enough to Transport Anywhere

At just 800mm wide and weighing only 750kg, the machine fits neatly into a standard trailer, making transportation between jobs simple and straightforward.

For contractors working across multiple sites, easy transport is a major advantage. The LF1000 Lifter can be loaded, transported and deployed quickly, ensuring it's ready to work wherever it's needed.

Built for Real Site Conditions

Construction and landscaping sites rarely offer perfect ground conditions. The LF1000 Lifter's all-terrain tracked undercarriage allows it to travel confidently across uneven ground, soft surfaces, gravel, mud and rough terrain, giving operators access to areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach with conventional material handling equipment.

For businesses like MRK Groundworks, this means materials can be moved directly to where they are needed, reducing unnecessary handling and improving productivity.

Taking the Hard Work Out of Moving Bulk Bags

One of the primary applications for MRK Groundworks is using the LF1000 Lifter with the bag lift cruciform attachment. Bulk builders' bags are a common sight on construction sites, but moving them manually from the kerbside to the work area can be physically demanding, time-consuming and inefficient. With the LF1000 Lifter, the process becomes significantly easier.

Rather than unloading materials and moving them by hand, the team can simply lift a full bulk bag and transport it directly to the point of use quickly, safely and with minimal effort. This not only saves time but also helps reduce manual handling risks and operator fatigue.

Efficient Pallet Handling for Landscaping Projects

The LF1000 is also helping MRK Groundworks streamline the movement of palletised materials such as paving slabs, block paving and decorative stone.

Instead of multiple trips with smaller loads, full pallets can be moved directly from delivery location to installation area, helping projects progress faster and reducing unnecessary labour.

Recently, the team shared footage of the LF1000 Lifter effortlessly transporting a full pallet of porcelain paving slabs – demonstrating just how capable the machine is when handling heavy construction materials.

Working Smarter, Not Harder

Perhaps the best endorsement comes from MRK Groundworks owner Mark himself, who recently shared this message alongside a video of the LF1000 transporting a full bulk bag:

It's a sentiment that resonates with many contractors.

The reality is that skilled operators are increasingly looking for ways to work more efficiently, reduce physical strain and get more done with the resources they have available. The LF1000 Lifter was developed with exactly that goal in mind.

Guest Blog: Using Tracking Data to Stay in Control

By Gary Lawson, Founder of Plant & Machinery Trackers

Smarter Hire Management for Compact Crushers

Compact crushers such as those produced by Dragon Equipment are becoming an increasingly common sight on construction and demolition projects.

Designed to be compact, capable and easy to move between jobs, they allow contractors to process material directly on site, reducing the need to cart waste away and bringing obvious efficiency benefits. Machines like these are clearly built with real-world use in mind, and it shows in the details. Features such as the auxiliary outlet that allows operators to run a hydraulic breaker directly from the machine make a big difference on site. Being able to break down larger pieces of concrete and feed them straight into the crusher without needing additional equipment is a clever and practical solution that saves both time and effort.

One of the reasons that Dragon’s crushers are so popular is their versatility. They are compact enough to move easily between sites, yet powerful enough to deliver serious productivity on demolition and recycling jobs. Because of this, they are often moving regularly between customers, projects and hire yards. For equipment owners and hire companies, having clear visibility of where those machines are working and how they are being used becomes an important part of managing the fleet effectively.

Having installed trackers on a number of compact crushers over the years, we’ve seen first-hand just how useful the usage data can be for hire companies.

Knowing where your machines are

The most obvious benefit of installing a plant tracker is simple location visibility.

Once installed, our tracking system allows equipment owners to see exactly where their machine is at any time through a secure app or web platform. For hire companies operating multiple machines across multiple sites, this can save a considerable amount of time.

Instead of relying on phone calls or paperwork to confirm where a machine is working, fleet managers can quickly check the location of any tracked machine within seconds.

For machines like compact crushers that may regularly move between jobs, this provides valuable oversight of the fleet.

Understanding how machines are actually used

Where tracking systems become particularly valuable for hire companies is in the operational data they provide.

Our tracking platform records when the machine starts, when it stops and how long it has been running. Over time this builds a detailed history of machine activity.

Equipment owners can see:

* When the machine was first started each day

  • When the engine was switched off

  • How long the machine ran for

  • When it was used during the day

  • The total operating hours of the machine

This information can be extremely useful when managing hire agreements.

If a customer says a machine wasn’t used on a particular day, the data can quickly provide clarity. The system records exactly when the machine was started and stopped, giving owners a clear record of how and when the machine has been used.

In many cases this removes uncertainty and helps avoid misunderstandings between hire companies and customers.

A real-world example from the hire industry

A situation many hire companies will recognise is when a machine is off-hired at the end of the week but remains on site until it is collected.

For example, a crusher might be off-hired on a Friday afternoon with the understanding that it will be collected the following Monday. In the past, this often meant the machine continued to be used over the weekend despite the hire period having ended.

With our tracking system, many hire companies now simply end the hire period on the Friday evening using Remote Start Inhibit.

Very often, the phone rings the following morning to say the machine will not start.

At that point the hire company has full control. If the customer would like to continue using the machine over the weekend, the hire can simply be extended and the machine re-enabled remotely through the app within seconds.

It’s a straightforward way of ensuring machines are only used when they are supposed to be — while still allowing genuine customers to extend the hire quickly when needed.

Remote Start Inhibit – “No Pay, No Play”

The feature that makes this possible is Remote Start Inhibit (RSI).

This feature allows the equipment owner to remotely prevent the machine from starting through the tracking platform. Within the hire industry this is often referred to as “No Pay, No Play.”

It’s a feature we developed specifically with the hire industry in mind, where controlling when machines can and cannot be used is often just as important as knowing where they are.

If a machine reaches the end of its agreed hire period, the owner can simply disable the ability for the machine to start. If the hire is extended, the machine can be re-enabled remotely within seconds through the app.

This approach gives equipment owners far greater control over how their machines are used and helps ensure hire periods are managed correctly.

Reducing unnecessary wear and servicing costs

Tracking data can also help equipment owners manage machine servicing more effectively.

Most plant machinery is serviced based on engine hours rather than mileage. When machines continue to operate outside agreed hire periods, those additional hours quickly add up.

Extra running hours can lead to:

  • More frequent servicing

  • Increased parts costs

  • Additional downtime

  • Faster depreciation of the machine

By monitoring machine hours and controlling usage through Remote Start Inhibit, equipment owners can prevent unnecessary operation outside agreed hire periods.

Over time, this can make a noticeable difference to maintenance costs and the long-term condition of the machine.

Instant security alerts when something happens

In addition to location and usage data, our tracking system can also provide instant security alerts when something unexpected occurs.

Owners can receive notifications if:

  • The machine ignition is switched on

  • The device detects tampering

  • The machine is moved

  • The machine is lifted or transported on a trailer

These alerts allow equipment owners to stay informed about activity around their machines even when they are working miles away from the yard.

For equipment that may be left on construction sites overnight or transported between locations, these alerts provide additional reassurance that the machine’s activity is being monitored.

A practical tool for managing modern equipment

Compact crushers are highly productive machines and represent a significant investment for contractors and hire companies.

Our tracking system has been developed specifically around the needs of plant owners and the hire industry, giving equipment owners clear visibility of where their machines are, how they’re being used and when they’re running.

For machines like Dragon’s compact crushers, having clear visibility of where equipment is working and how it is being used simply makes managing the fleet easier.

Comment from Dragon Equipment: Thanks Gary for sharing your experience and insight in to machinery tracking. A lot of thought, time and clever tech goes into our machines, and its great to know that hire companies are using equally clever tech to look after their machines in the field.

Case Study: On-Site Recycling in Belgium with the CR400 Crusher

The Challenge

A contractor working on a demolition and rebuild project in Belgium was faced with a familiar problem: a large volume of leftover rubble and debris from the demolition phase. Traditionally, this material would need to be removed from site at significant cost, only for new hardcore to be purchased and delivered back to site for use as foundations and pathways.

The customer recognised this as a waste of both money and energy and began searching for a more sustainable and cost-effective solution.

The Solution

The contractor contacted Gert de Bruijn of GenG Green Tech, Dragon Equipment’s BeNeLux importer, to explore on-site recycling options. Gert recommended bringing the Dragon Equipment CR400 Crusher directly to the site to process the demolition rubble into reusable hardcore.

The CR400 Crusher was delivered to site in a van and hired by the customer for just two days.

The Results

Despite challenging winter conditions — including very cold January weather and snow on the ground — the CR400 Crusher performed flawlessly.

Over the two-day hire period, the customer successfully:

  • Processed all demolition rubble on site

  • Created a clean, usable pile of hardcore ready for foundations and pathways

  • Eliminated disposal costs entirely

  • Avoided the need to purchase and transport new hardcore materials

The only costs incurred were the costs to hire the machine, and the labour to feed it.

Guest Blog: On-Site Crushing with the CR450 Diesel Crusher

By Rob Edwards from Landscape Design and Construction

My clients bought a property that had been empty for a number of years. We were given the contract to sort the outside out, after major building work they were left with a mound of waste concrete, bricks and slabs.

It was going to cost a lot of money to shift it to the road side and pay for grab lorries to take it away. As rubble was going to be required for a large patio area and paths as part of the Landscape project it was clearly more cost effective and environmentally friendly as possible to crush the waste on site.

We always look to using local companies and British built equipment to assist us with our work. We came across Neil at JTC Crushing and he was very helpful and arranged for the Dragon Equipment CR450 Crusher to be available for us to use.

We run JCB excavators because they are British and were pleased to have a British built Crusher which was a brilliant bit of kit.

We ran the machine from 8am to 6pm all-day and only stopped it once to refuel around 4pm.

We found the CR450 Crusher very well made, good engineering and design with many good features and accessories like the added hydraulics for a breaker pack and the water feed to stop dust if required.

We thought the tracks struggled a bit with muddy conditions and a step would be useful for accessing the hopper.

In advance to the crusher arriving we used our breaker on the JCB to get the material to the right size for the crusher and piled it up out of the mud ready to feed the crusher.

This meant all we needed to do on the day was just load the crusher with the JCB.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this company and it's products and will be using the crusher on the next project.

Comment from Dragon Equipment: Thanks for taking the time be our guest blogger this month Rob. Its great to hear what a different the Crusher made to your job, and thank you for the honest, real-life feedback on the crusher!

Why our compact tracked machines excel in winter conditions

Winter ground conditions are one of the biggest limiting factors on productivity across construction, landscaping, forestry and demolition. Saturated soil, mud, frost and uneven surfaces make access more difficult and increase the risk of machines becoming bogged down or damaging finished ground. In these conditions, machine design plays a critical role in determining whether work can continue efficiently or must be delayed.

Our compact tracked machines are specifically suited to winter ground conditions because they distribute weight more evenly than wheeled equipment. Lower ground pressure reduces sinking on soft or waterlogged surfaces, helping machines maintain traction while minimising site damage. This is particularly important on residential projects, landscaped areas or restricted access sites where ground recovery time is limited.

Tracks also provide consistent grip in conditions where wheels struggle. Mud, loose material and light snow can all reduce tyre effectiveness, whereas a tracked system maintains contact with the ground across a larger surface area. This improves stability and control, especially on slopes or uneven terrain that become more hazardous during winter months.

Our tracked power barrows are particularly effective when ground conditions prevent the use of wheeled dumpers. Their ability to move material steadily across mud, inclines and soft ground helps maintain workflow on site. Similarly, our tracked lifters provide stable lifting capability without the excessive ground impact associated with heavier equipment. Plus, our tracked crushers provide the crushing power of a much larger machine, within a compact, non-invasive footprint.

For winter work, good practice includes keeping tracks clear of compacted mud and debris, as build-up can reduce traction and accelerate wear. Regular inspection of track tension and undercarriage components helps ensure reliable performance throughout the colder months. With the right machine choice and basic care, winter ground conditions do not have to bring productivity to a halt.

Guest Blog: My Experience with the Dragon CR450 Crusher

By Neil Carter from JTC Crushing

I bought my Dragon CR450 Diesel Crusher back in July 2025, and it’s fair to say it’s been busy ever since. I’ve been in the crushing game for a long time, and I know a solid bit of kit when I see one - and this one’s a cracker.

The CR450 is compact, powerful, and designed and built right here in the UK, which really makes a difference. It means all the back-up, parts, and servicing are done in the UK too. If I ever need anything, I can just pick up the phone and speak directly to the Dragon Equipment team - not that I’ve had any issues so far!

At under 1,500Kg, it’s easy to move around. I can track it straight onto my trailer and tow it behind my pickup with no trouble. The 33-litre fuel tank goes a long way - most hirers can get a full day (or more) of crushing out of one tank, which keeps things simple and efficient.

Maintenance is a breeze too. There’s just one grease point to hit each day, and if I ever need to do more, all the guards come off easily, giving me full access to the Kubota engine and everything else. It’s been well thought-out and built for people who actually use these machines day in, day out.

I mostly hire the crusher out for week-long jobs at £850 per week, though I do offer day hires at £275 and weekend hires at £450–£500. On average, the crusher’s out on hire three weeks out of every four, so it’s earning its keep! So far, it’s clocked up over 230 hours, and it’s still going strong - no complaints from me or my customers.

People are often shocked by how much this compact crusher can get through in a day. It might be small, but it doesn’t hold back. I’m actually at the point now where I’m thinking about getting a second CR450, just to keep up with the demand.

All in all, the Dragon Equipment CR450 Diesel Crusher has been a great investment - reliable, easy to run, and backed up by a great UK team. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Comment from Dragon Equipment: Thanks for being our guest blogger this month Neil, it’s great to hear how invaluable the CR450 Crusher is becoming to your business!

Dragon Equipment at PlantWorx 2025

We had a brilliant few days at the 2025 PlantWorx Show, held for the first time at the Newark Showground from 23-25 September 2025. The new location proved to be a great success - a busy, buzzing show full of energy, innovation, and impressive live demonstrations.

It was fantastic to show some of our own machines in action, including the CR450 Diesel Crusher and the LF1000 Lifter, both drawing a lot of attention during our demos.

PlantWorx 2025 also marked a very exciting milestone for Dragon Equipment, as we used the event to launch our newest machine - the CR550 Diesel Hybrid Crusher. The response was incredible, with plenty of positive feedback and interest from both existing customers and new faces alike.

As always, it was great to reconnect with some of our loyal customers who stopped by to say hello, as well as meet new people keen to learn more about our British-built, compact, and powerful machines. We also enjoyed catching up with suppliers and partners from across the industry.

All in all, a fantastic show - great conversations, great demos, and great people. We’re already looking forward to seeing everyone again at PlantWorx 2027!

Case Study: Half-Day Domestic Job with the CR300 Crusher

Yorkshire Mini Crusher Hire recently demonstrated how our CR300 Crusher can deliver serious value, even on smaller domestic jobs. Using the compact and powerful CR300 Crusher, Chris completed a half-day crushing service, saving his customer both time and money while helping to reduce waste and environmental impact.

The Challenge

A homeowner working on a small domestic project needed several tonnes of aggregate, they also had several tonnes of hardcore waste to dispose of. Typically, this would involve:

  • Hiring a 4-yard skip (£160)

  • Purchasing 3.5 bulk bags of new aggregate (£140)

That’s a total spend of £300, not including the environmental cost of transporting and disposing of material. Domestic sites also, often come with tight access restrictions, making it difficult to bring in larger equipment or skips.

The Solution

Yorkshire Mini Crusher Hire provided their CR300 Crusher for a half-day hire at £160. The CR300’s 700mm width allowed it to access the domestic site with ease - no need for heavy equipment or complicated logistics.

During the session, the team crushed the existing hardcore material directly on-site, producing clean, reusable aggregate.

The Results

  • Skip Hire Saved: £160

  • Aggregate Purchase Saved: £140

  • Total Customer Saving: £140

  • Job Completed in Half a Day

  • Zero Waste Transported Off-Site

The resulting crushed material was reused on-site as aggregate, eliminating the need to buy new material. The job not only saved the customer money but also kept waste out of landfill - a perfect example of practical recycling and sustainable construction.

Plus, Chris had a very satisfied customer: “You were an absolutely god send for me today. Thank you ever so much. You were professional from the first message of contact and throughout. I was extremely pleased with how tidy you left everything and blowing the dust of the cars that were around was an added brownie point. Thank you ever so much I would highly recommend you to everyone !!!”

Why It Matters

This project highlights how the CR300 Crusher adds value to small-scale domestic jobs. It’s cost-effective, environmentally responsible, and easy to use even in tight spaces.

Yorkshire Mini Crusher Hire’s quick, efficient service shows how our CR300 Crusher helps operators across the UK deliver professional results while supporting a circular economy.
